[Movies] JJ Abrams In Talks To Produce Micronauts Posted by Larry Csonka on 11.05.2009
Another comic/toy line adaptation…
According to The Wall Street Journal, JJ Abrams (Star Trek, Lost) is in negotiations to produce a movie about the Japanese interchangeable toys Micronauts. Hasbro has just acquired the line, which first debuted in 1974 in Japan as Microman. Abrams had the following to say about the potential project…
"Sometimes, when someone is not a celebrity and you are casting them in a role, everyone who is in a seat of authority voices questions about that actor's talent, sex appeal, looks, ability -- their everything. But then they get the role, and suddenly they are on the cover of every magazine, and nobody questions those things again. In retrospect, everyone says, 'Of course that person is a star.'"

I grew up on Micronauts/Micromen and am totally stoked for this! I don't care what they do with it---just seeing Baron Karza and one or one hundred Acroyears on the big screen will RULE!!!

This is great for X-gen'rs. I have 5 copies of this first issue as shown in the graphic. A good concept that was got overshadowed by the big sellers of the day. Even a straight-to-DVD copy production would be something I'd be into if the story were good.

This could be very cool. I loved the Micronauts when I was a kid, and still catch myself doing the Bug thing. If they do the whole thing in the Microverse, we could have a new franchise on our hands.

This is awesome. A lot of people don't realize that Transformers were actually toys that originated from a Micronaut offshoot in japan. now that Hasbro owns them? That's pretty awesome.
